SERVPRO® Team Harvey Creates First Responders Superbowl Squares Contest

Superbowl Squares Logo SERVPRO® Team Harvey’s First Responders Superbowl Squares Contest was created to support and celebrate local responders.

On February 23, 2024 SERVPRO® of Aberdeen/Holmdel (aka, SERVPRO® Team Harvey) hosted a pizza dinner for over 50 firefighters during a training session at Keyport’s Ladder Number One. The Keyport Fire Department was the lucky winner of SERVPRO® Team Harvey’s First Responders Superbowl Squares Contest, which was created to support and celebrate local responders.

“Often in our line of work we can’t do our job until first responders have done theirs. Many of the first responders in the communities we serve are volunteers, and we wanted to come up with an original way to thank these brave individuals for their selfless dedication to our safety,” said Lance Harvey, Owner/President of SERVPRO® Team Harvey. “We felt that running a contest and providing pizza during a training session for the winning firehouse was a fun way to show our appreciation.”

This was the first year that SERVPRO® Team Harvey ran the contest, which followed the same rules as the squares betting game that is so popular during the football season. SERVPRO® Team Harvey used an online football squares site to automatically generate a game grid with the names of ten local, volunteer firefighter companies. The firehouse that coordinated with the last digits of the final score won the contest. This year, the lucky winner was Keyport.

SERVPRO® Team Harvey’s commitment to first responders on the local level mirrors SERVPRO’s® commitment on the national level. For example, SERVPRO® hosts the First Responder Bowl every year, where a game is played in honor of first responders, and a peer-nominated first responder receives an Award of Excellence. Also, this year SERVPRO® will be the national title sponsor of 2024’s Firefighter Challenge League, which is a competition showcasing firefighters’ physical fitness and mental toughness.

“SERVPRO® Team Harvey is proud to be a part of an organization dedicated to honoring these heroes, and looks forward to continued engagement with the first responders in the communities we serve,” said Harvey.

SERVPRO Honors First Responders During its 12th Annual First Responder’s Bowl

12/18/2023 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel is excited to announce that this year’s SERVPRO® First Responder Bowl, the only college football game dedicated to honoring first responders, is scheduled to take place on Dec. 26th at Southern Methodist University’s (SMU’s) Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The First Responder Bowl is an NCAA post-season college football bowl game played annually in the Dallas, Texas area. The game can be watched live on ESPN at 4:30 p.m. CT.

“SERVPRO Team Harvey is proud to be a part of an organization dedicated to honoring these heroes. First responders go above and beyond the call of duty to protect our loved ones and deserve to be honored. Often in our line of work, we can’t do our job until these heroes have done theirs. It’s only after first responders provide lifesaving support that we can go about putting our customers’ lives back to normal,” said Lance Harvey, Owner/President of SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel.

Each year in preparation for this game, SERVPRO® franchises are asked to reach out to local first responders to gather nominations for the annual Award of Excellence. Nominees eligible for the award are first responders who have done something remarkable during the nominating year, and include first responders who have been injured, mentors, retirees, and fallen first responders. The recipient of the award wins an expense paid trip to the game where he or she is publicly honored.

This year, the Award of Excellence will be given to a team rather than to an individual. The recipients are members of the Metro Nashville Police Department who responded to an active shooter event at a school that resulted in the death of six people. Detective Michael Collazo, Sergeant Jeff Mathes, Officer Rex Engelbert, Detective Ryan Cagle, and Detective Zachary Plese entered the school without hesitation, methodically swept the building, and neutralized the threat. There is no question that their actions saved more lives.

“We’ve trained for incidents like this for years with the thoughts that if it ever happened, we would not hesitate, we would go in, and we would do whatever was needed for the safety of those involved,” John Drake, the Nashville police chief, said at a news conference about a week after the shooting.

In support of game day, SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel is delivering goodie bags to local first responders. The bags will include snacks that can be enjoyed by local heroes as they watch the game together, as well as a voucher for a free emergency vehicle, biohazard cleaning.

Harvey said, “We want our local first responders know how much we appreciate them, and we are hoping they take the time to gather together to enjoy a game played in their honor.”

The first SERVPRO® First Responder Bowl was first held on January 1, 2011, and since 2014 it has played in late December. In 2019, the Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the campus of Southern Methodist University (SMU) became the permanent home of the game.

Donate Toys For The Holidays At SERVPRO Aberdeen/Holmdel

You can drop off a new, unwrapped toy for Red Bank Toys for Tots at the Aberdeen/Holmdel SERVPRO location, starting Nov. 13.

ABERDEEN-HOLMDEL, NJ — SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel will be accepting toys for a Red Bank Toys for Tots drop-off program.

SERVPRO Team Harvey of Aberdeen/Holmdel will provide a collection box at its County Road location.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted from Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 13 to Dec. 13 at its 423 County Road, Cliffwood, NJ 07721 location.

“The ultimate success of the Toys for Tots program depends on the support and generosity of the community. SERVPRO Team Harvey of Aberdeen/Holmdel wants to make it as easy and convenient as possible for community members to donate by providing a safe and accessible drop off spot,” said Lance Harvey, owner/president.

The drop-off box will be provided by the Red Bank Toys for Tots Program, which services Monmouth County, part of Middlesex County, and northern Ocean County, the company says.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during the holiday season, and to distribute those toys as gifts to needy children.

Community members can participate in the program by dropping off the toys in collection boxes positioned in local businesses.

Once coordinators pick up donations from the drop box location in mid-December, the toys will then be organized and distributed to children in need in time for the holidays.

Though the program’s focus is on helping children, it also serves communities by bringing people together in the spirit of a common goal, said Harvey.

“Toys for Tots brings communities together in support of a common cause, which speaks to the true spirit of the holiday season. Because the heart of SERVPRO’s mission is to serve the community, we look forward to our involvement with Toys for Tots this year and for many years to come,” said Harvey.

Aberdeen/Holmdel SERVPRO Seeks Teens To Fight Hunger

10/18/2023 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel is joining Dermer Dreams for their annual food drive on November 4.

SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel is partnering with local high school students to raise awareness of hunger in northern Monmouth County. All students who sign up will earn 10 hours of community service.

Dermer Dreams developed the Neighborhood Captain program where students are provided 100 Dermer Dreams donation bags; teens create their own strategy to distribute the bags and collect as much food as possible.

The student, along with a parent, picks up the bags and delivers them to the drop site, which is the Fair Haven firehouse, on Saturday, Nov.4. From there, the food is delivered to food banks in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Here is how to sign your teen up to be a "Neighborhood Captain:" https://dermerdreams.org/

“Our friends, Alyse and Dan Dermer, brought Dermer Dreams to Fair Haven, NJ in 2019 and have been steadily growing its Neighborhood Captain program throughout the county and state," said Jennifer Harvey, vice president and owner of SERVPRO Team Harvey. "We want to do our part to bring this meaningful initiative to the students and residents of the towns we serve."

Dermer Dreams is a non-profit organization; their motto is "fighting hunger, one bag at a time." Their goal is to raise 1,000,000 pounds of food in New Jersey. They have collected and delivered more than 515,000 pounds of food to people who are food insecure.

After the student delivers the food, they are given a certificate for 10 hours of community service.

The Dermer’s next Neighborhood Captain event is Saturday, Nov. 4, and is expected to be the largest one yet, with hundreds of students participating as “Neighborhood Captains."
